The Amazon Corner
The Amazon Dis-Union: Amazon's Ongoing Struggles with Unions
Amazon workers at a warehouse in North Carolina have voted against joining a labor union, making it the latest group of employees to reject organized representation. This comes after recent union victories at other Amazon-owned companies, such as Whole Foods, and ongoing efforts by unions to gain representation for Amazon workers.
However, the company has been able to successfully fight off unionization in other areas, such as in New York and Alabama. Amazon maintains that it already offers competitive pay and strives to provide a safe and inclusive workplace for its employees.
The Bureau of Customs plans to introduce an e-commerce processing system for international shipments. This move aims to ensure the proper collection of duties, taxes, and other charges on e-commerce goods bought through online shopping platforms and e-retailer websites.
With tariff changes becoming a prominent topic, it's no surprise that new processing systems are coming into play (remember last week when we covered how customs officials were overwhelmed by the influx of packages and unprepared for the tariff shift). In addition to ensuring proper revenue collection, this step will also prevent revenue leakage and boost the BoC's current revenue.
