There
The e-commerce world changes by the second, and it can be hard to keep track of everything. So, we've rounded up some of the most important updates from the past week to help you stay on top of things:
Measuring memberships across platforms, from Amazon to Walmart and Target- a new report takes an in-depth look.
Micheal’s MakerPlace and Etsy’s race to the top and what this means for the handmade goods industry.
Kroger’s dramatic shift to digital and why the CEO wants to continue focusing on in-person locations.
Everything you need to know about Faire Wholesale and how to use the platform to skyrocket your e-commerce growth.
The Amazon Corner
Battle of the Perks: Measuring Amazon Prime up Against Its Competitors
Although Amazon Prime has been around the longest, it may not be the strongest, especially compared to other membership options such as Walmart+ and Target’s new Target Circle 360. Although it’s hard to say that there's one clear winner- one this is for sure… each membership reigns in a specific domain.
As Walmart distinguishes itself through discounted gas at its gas stations and Target by offering an extended return policy, each membership offers its own benefits. But what about Amazon Prime’s fast shipping promise? It seems like these other retailers are following closely behind it. And for streaming? Walmart+ is coming for that as well…
Handmade goods are on the rise: In a world of big box retailers, smaller businesses that support local businesses and independent creators are gaining fast attention. With an investment from Michaels, MakerPlace offers independent creators a platform to sell handcrafted goods directly to consumers, shifting the handmade goods landscape.
But what about Etsy? As one of the leading marketplaces for handmade goods, it seems like they may still have a strong hold on the industry. However, when considering the fact that MakerPlace doesn't charge a seller fee, it could be interesting to see how this competition plays out.
Kroger’s Growth in Digital: What This Means For Stores
A shift in digital, without a shift in total sales: Kroger continues to grow digital sales in Q4 despite stagnant total sales, clearly indicating a huge shift in consumer shopping preferences.
Yet- don’t expect stores to slow down operations anytime soon. CEO of Kroger, Rodney McMullen, said, “Many of the ways we go to market in digital still come through the store channel,” adding, “We know that our most profitable customers shop both in-store and online. So it’s important to be there for our customers in a way they choose to shop with us”. So is it business as usual?
