Déjà Vu: Amazon Expects E-Commerce Boost from October Sales Event
If anybody knows how to run a sale, it's Amazon.With budget-conscious customers looking to get an early jump on holiday shopping, Amazon’s new Prime Big Deal Days sale is getting a lot of attention. According to market research firm Numerator, nearly a third of all consumers are expected to shop online during the event, representing a “significant boost” to E-commerce.
Another research firm, Mintel, notes that nearly half of holiday shoppers plan to participate in pre-season sales, with over a quarter citing inflation/rising prices as the reason. Prime Deal Days is well-positioned to provide shoppers with an early alternative to similar sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
The COVID Boost Continues: E-Commerce Sales Up 7.7% in Q2
The future of E-commerce is bright!According to analysis of U.S. Department of Commerce reports, E-commerce sales reached $277.6 billion in the second quarter of 2023. That’s a 7.7% increase compared to 2022 and suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic may have had a permanent impact on consumer’s shopping habits.
Although retail growth in general has stalled, online shopping is booming. In fact, while only 20% of retail purchases are transacted online, E-commerce accounts for nearly half of the year-over-year growth between 2022 and 2023. That means people are actually increasing how much they spend online.
Spending Season: Online Holiday Shopping to Exceed $221 Billion in 2023
This holiday season is shaping up to be a big one. Adobe Analytics predicts that holiday shoppers in the US will spend $221.8 billion dollars online this year. This figure represents an increase of nearly 5% from last year's $211.7 billion and demonstrates the increased prevalence of shoppers who favor E-commerce over traditional retail.
Additionally, Adobe forecasts that mobile purchases will make up more than half (51.2%) of online spending, up from 44.88% in 2022. Thanksgiving and Christmas are expected to be the busiest days for mobile shoppers, who will spend a record-breaking $113 billion throughout the holiday season.
